KaleMap

Privacy

Short version: we hold an email address if you make an account, and nothing else that identifies you.

Location

Your location is requested by your browser and used in the page to centre the map and to ask our server for places in that area. The coordinates are not written to any database and not attached to your account.

Accounts

An account is an email address and a display handle derived from it. There is no password. Sign-in links are single use and expire in fifteen minutes. Session identifiers are stored hashed, so a database dump does not contain usable credentials.

IP addresses

Stored only as a keyed hash, and only against sign-in attempts and sessions, to stop abuse. The hash cannot be reversed to an address.

Third parties

Map tiles are served by CARTO and geocoding by Nominatim, both of which see the tile and search requests your browser makes. There is no advertising, no analytics product and no tracking cookie: the only cookie is the sign-in session.

Deletion

Ask from your account page and everything tied to the account is removed. Contributions can be kept anonymised if you prefer, which is the default.

Terms of use

KaleMap is provided as is. Vegan verdicts are produced by members and by software reading published menus; they are a starting point, not a guarantee, and nothing here is advice for allergies or medical needs. By contributing you confirm the contribution is your own honest experience, and you licence it to KaleMap and its members to display and reuse with attribution to your display name. We remove contributions that are abusive, promotional or false, and accounts that make them.
